November 5, 2009

Dear Fifth Grade Parents:

We regret to announce that the “Creepy Film Festival” rescheduled for tomorrow, Friday, November 6, is canceled. We have reached an impasse with our technology capabilities, which has come as an unfortunate surprise.

There is a lot of great news and learning to report, however!

The students did a lot of writing! Your child wrote a multiparagraph narrative story, converted a story to a script, and converted a script to a storyboard—all while working on problem solution plots, strong words, and the concept of “show don’t tell”.

Technologically, your child has learned how to edit movies on iMOVIE, the process of which involves steps that are important aspects of creating tech-literate students. (Technology has also helped them work on patience and problem solving!)

Students worked in groups to write, create costumes, film, act, and edit. Your child had the opportunity to develop 21st century skills (collaborative work, project management, and creative thinking), while also exploring other interests such as visual art and theater!

We are disappointed that we cannot present the final versions of the films, however, we are proud of the fifth graders and the great work they’ve accomplished!

Sincerely,

The Fifth Grade Team
