CSAP Info. 2/28/11

February 28, 2011

Dear Families,

As you probably know, this week begins our CSAP extravaganza! We will be testing for the next two weeks on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, from 8:30 through 12:15, with a nice, healthy break in between! I will not be in the room during testing, as I have a 5th grader myself and it is against the Colorado Department of Education’s rules for me to proctor to other 5th graders this year. In my place, Ms. Amber Richman, former MSES 5th grade teacher, will be proctoring. Ms. Richman and I have similar styles and I am confident the kids will be most comfortable with her. She actually came in last Friday and played a couple games with our class, just to get to know the kids better!

In order for students to do their best, it is important that they get plenty of rest and good nutrition. Please help your child do well by insuring that he/she gets a good night’s sleep and a healthy, hearty breakfast. School snacks will be available each testing morning, however, if your child prefers to bring his/her own, please verify that it is a healthy choice. Sugary, high carbohydrate snacks can cause kids to have trouble concentrating. Also, students should bring a water bottle to keep them hydrated.

Finally, there will be no formal homework over the next two weeks. Students will be working on developing their Science Fair project idea and components. These assignments will not be assessed for grades, but they will help your child develop a workable, fun Science Fair project, so please make sure your child does them. The first assignment was sent home last Friday and will be due this Friday.

Thanks for all of your support! The kids and I truly appreciate it. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Sincerely,

Chris Whipkey
